Rafters Make Independence Stadium New Home

A wise philosopher once said, “absence makes the field get better” …or something like that.

Due to venue renovations at Lee Hedges, the Rafters have secured the biggest venue in the Shreveport-Bossier area as their home turf. Independence Stadium.

  • Shreveport Rafters will move to Independence Stadium
  • Fan fare will remain the same ($10 adult, $5 twelve-three years old, FREE for two and under)
  • First home game: April 25th @6:30pmCT
  • 8 home games

It’s been 10-years since Shreveport’s premier stadium hosted high-level football, when Caddo Parish hosted the LHSAA state soccer championships. The Rafters coming to Indy will provide that same experience eight times throughout the summer months.

The Rafters crowds in three seasons have been one of the top fan bases in the NPSL (98 teams) in terms of attendance and Rafter’s owner, Montgomery Cole, believes this has been a massive boost to the team and its supporters.

“We had Lee Hedges scheduled with the Caddo Parish School Board, earlier in the year. When I went to confirm with them, they communicated to me that the Capital Projects Board had planned to redo the lights in the stadium, limiting the field access- cancelling all events at the facility. So obviously I had to figure out another option,” said Cole.

“I’d been speaking with SPAR about some other options mainly, Independence. They were fairly eager to get us in the venue and after all was said and done, we both felt it was a good fit. I think it’s a good thing to work with the city and also put the only semi-pro team in the biggest stadium in the city. The plan is to section off part of the stands- highlighting our supporters.”

“I think it brings a little bit more authenticity and legitimacy to the club and the city. Now, your two biggest teams, with the Shreveport Mudbugs are playing next to each other. We’re gonna examine the layout starting today to work out any kinks. But overall, it’s ready to go with few minor tweaks. As far as the playing ground, it’s an MLS grade field- following all the FIFA mandated rules.

“Tickets will stay the same $10 per game for adults, $5 dollars for kids 12 and under, and of course kids 2 under get in free. Concessions will still be available. We will have to keep fans updated on whether alcohol will be sold by the concession vendors. This change will simply be playing at Independence Stadium, while enjoying the same experience fans have come to expect.”

It’s been 278 days since the last Rafters game. The wait ends Wednesday April 25th @ 6:30pmCT.
